Farhadi decision showcases nation glory: Iran culture official

Iran cultural official praises Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi, describing his refusal as a measure showing Iran cultural richness.

Iran cultural official says Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi’s no-show at the latest edition of the Oscars features Iran cultural richness and the nation’s glory.

Seyed Hadi Hossenin, deputy head with Iran Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry, was quoted by the media as saying on Wednesday that Farhadi’s refusal to attend the Oscars 2017 showcased Iranian nation’s cultural richness and greatness.

He also added that Iranian great artist Farhadi and the like has, is, and will always be present in Iran history.

Iranian movie ‘The Salesman’ directed by Asghar Farhadi has won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards.

The movie was competing with ‘Land of Mine’ from Denmark, ‘A Man Called Ove’ from Sweden, ‘Tanna’ from Australia and ‘Toni Erdmann’ from Germany.

In late January, Farhadi declared that he would not attend the Oscars ceremony even if he were granted an exception to President Trump’s visa ban for citizens from Iran and several other predominantly Muslim countries.
